Overview
Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death in trauma. Wounds that are deep, irregular, or heavily bleeding often require packing combined with sustained pressure to stop the bleed. Hemostatic gauze improves this process by accelerating the body’s natural clotting response while filling the wound cavity.

The QuikClot® Bleeding Control Dressing is a kaolin-impregnated gauze roll designed for wound packing and external bleeding control. The flexible, nonwoven gauze conforms easily to wound surfaces and channels, allowing effective packing and compression. By combining absorbent gauze with a mineral clotting activator, the dressing helps promote rapid clot formation while maintaining pressure at the bleeding site.

How It Works
This dressing combines wound packing gauze with kaolin, an inorganic mineral that activates the body’s natural clotting cascade when it contacts blood. As the gauze is packed into the wound and pressure is applied, the kaolin helps accelerate clot formation while the gauze structure absorbs blood and fills the wound cavity.

The nonwoven hydrophilic gauze conforms to tissue surfaces and wound channels, allowing it to be packed into deeper injuries where direct surface pressure alone may not stop bleeding. The dressing remains structurally intact during compression and does not break apart during packing. It is packaged in a durable but easy-to-tear pouch that allows rapid access during emergency use.
